L'État de la Mongouste 2012

Voici la portion qui nous intéresse dans l'État de la Mongouste 212 (The State of the Mongoose 212) qui vient de paraître sur les forums de Mongoose Publishing:

The new writing team for the Lone Wolf Multiplayer Gamebook series has direct and unparalleled access to Mr Dever, ensuring the highest quality and accuracy in future titles – but progress is not fast on this series. That is the trade off; you are getting in-depth Magnamund background straight from the horse’s mouth. However, they are not the quickest writers in the world and, to be fair, English is not their first language (which makes editing this line so interesting!). This line now officially comes under the heading ‘it will be out when it is ready.’ Great stuff in the works, but you will have to wait a little longer for it, I am afraid.

Nevertheless, several titles are being worked on, including the Kai Monastery, Drakkarim, and the manuscript of the second Stornlands book has just been delivered (expect to see that one early in 213 too).

Everyone is waiting for Book 18. We know, and we apologise profusely. Our problem here is a combination of the issues described above and a valiant (but costly) attempt to keep all previous titles in print. The margins on these books are wafer thin (a new title costs two to three times more to print than your average 256 page hardback RPG book), making it exceedingly difficult for us to tie up financial resources in a print run. The problem is, as a company, we cannot simply ring fence every line on a financial level, so what happens to one line in the company can affect others. In this case, the disappearing RPG market and reduced pace of miniatures releases have both had an unavoidable effect on Lone Wolf.

We have mentioned the possibility of softback versions of these books, which would make things easier, but we have committed to doing the entire series in a hardback format and, come hell or high water, we will be sticking to that.

Book 18 is now at print (and will be landing on the mats of Megadeal and preorder customers early next year), and we are already prepping Book 19. We apologise for the delays – they are not reasonable, and we will be spending a great deal of effort to correct this in 213. As everything else in the company starts coming together, the pressure will be relieved on this series and titles will start coming out at their original pace.

At the end of the day, we have a lot of passion for Lone Wolf here at Mongoose (these were the gamebooks that got me into gaming when I was very, very young, way before I had even heard of D&D…), and can see there is a huge potential in this setting that reaches far beyond the gamebooks. We have been speaking to Mr Dever about this, and have a couple of projects boiling that we wish to use to expand Lone Wolf and bring it to ‘modern’ gamers. However, first things first – we are concentrating on the solo gamebooks and will bring them to you in regular order before we give much more thought to anything else

Pour ceux qui ont de la difficulté à lire l'anglais, voici en gros le résumé:

-Les suppléments du LWMPGB sont maintenant écrits par «des gens dont l'anglais n'est la langue maternel» ce qui explique pourquoi cela prend plus de temps pour les écrire. Les livres sortiront lorsqu'ils seront prêts.

-On peut attendre les suppléments Drakkarim, The Kai Monastery et Stornlands II pour 213.

-Pour ce qui est du livre 18, il est à l'impression. Cependant, en raison du coût plus élevé pour imprimer les livres-jeux en format Collector's Edition, le processus prend plus de temps pour Mongoose de trouver les fonds nécessaires pour faire cette impression. Le problème de liquidité devrait cependant diminuer durant la prochaine année.

Merci pour ces infos fraîches.

Un peu gonflé, le Matthew de nous faire porter entièrement le chapeau des retards sur la gamme MPGB, mais je suis trop content de pouvoir y contribuer pour faire du règlement de petits comptes ici. Et puis il faut reconnaître que nous sommes lents... même si nous ne sommes pas les seuls à l'être dans le triangle Mongoose-Joe-Scriptarium.

Et c'est sympa comme il parle de nous... d'ailleurs comme l'unique team de développement désormais, ce qui est flatteur, mais un peu limitatif car d'autres auteurs ont jusqu'ici su écrire du bon matos aussi pour cette gamme, en premier lieu August Hahn (d'ailleurs associé dans le cadre du projet Kai Monastery).

Je rectifie l'ordre aussi : Stornlands 2, ça peut être sorti d'ici le printemps, je pense (texte revu à la baisse -pour ne pas dire à la serpe- et dessins sont entre leurs mains, à l'exception des cartes à finaliser), puis après c'est Kai Monastery et, loin derrière, Drakkarim. Mais 213 pour les 3, ça semble jouable, du moins pour nous.

J'avais loupé ce thread, désolé, et encore plus ce passage nous concernant directement... Ce n'est pas un assassinat en règle, juste un constat sur le fait que nous sommes effectivement lents et pas au top en anglais... Mais il y a derrière des compliments sur la qualité du contenu, et pas de remise en cause de la "team", pour le moment. Ça donne envie de continuer!
